GOLDEN BOOT MEDIA PTY LTD is a dynamic start-up in Australia’s digital media landscape aiming to disrupt with its first project, which will focus on football (soccer) and be announced shortly, to be launched later in 2025. Golden Boot Media has been founded by David Weiner and Antony Pinshaw to provide a platform for passionate, talented and multi-skilled digital storytellers, who want to take the next step in their careers and are up for the challenge of building a new brand with world class best practice and a desire to innovate and inspire. All employees would be expected to have a passion for producing multimedia, digital football content and would require a deep knowledge of the sport, both domestically and globally.
The Role
The Managing Editor will work with the Chief Content Officer on establishing the brand’s foundational editorial strategy, tone, style guide and be responsible for leading the ideation and execution of Golden Boot Media’s editorial output. The Managing Editor will be the custodian of the new digital platform, responsible for the curation and management of all content on the platform, working closely with the Social Media & Video Manager on off-platform distribution.
It is a fundamental, critical role to ensure the immediate success of Golden Boot Media’s first project, with an aim to drive aggressive audience growth, build a publishing engine and create content that inspires and attracts fans across the country, bringing the best of Australian football storytelling to life.
Key Responsibilities
Platform Curation & Traffic Outcomes: Lead the curation and presentation of editorial content across our digital platform, with an eye to growth, discoverability, and fan engagement.
Lead the editorial agenda across all our platforms: Own the day-to-day publishing cadence across all of our mediums, working with the Social Media & Video Manager.
Contribute with world class daily written journalism, innovate with the ways it is presented and delivered and support the social media team’s publishing output. There are opportunities to explore other areas of the business, such as video content, newsletters, podcasting, or on-camera discussions.
Editorial Tone & Consistency: Establish and maintain a consistent editorial tone across all outputs, ensuring quality control, an understanding of our audience and alignment with brand values and commercial requirements.
Content Calendar Management: Own the editorial calendar and contributor roster. Identify content gaps and proactively commission freelancers or internal resources to fill them. Have the ability to drive the day to day agenda while also having an eye on medium and long term planning.
Cross-Channel Coordination: Work in close partnership with the Social Media & Video Manager to ensure consistency, strategic alignment, and prioritisation between platform content and social/off-platform distribution. Support the syndication and amplification of content across all relevant digital channels.
Develop and execute: Build strategies that enhance the distribution of our content.
Data driven analysis: Report on progress, feedback and devise improvements based on data driven analysis.
Who You Are
An elite creative and strategic editorial leader with a passion for football and digital media.
Highly motivated to work in a fast paced, small team, start-up environment with ambitious and aggressive growth targets.
Experienced in building editorial calendars, managing contributors and rosters, and sourcing, creating editing or commissioning high-quality journalism.
A lateral thinker who can apply different storytelling techniques on a platform-by-platform basis.
A disruptor with fresh ideas on how to cover sport and a deep knowledge of the football, media and platform landscape in 2025.
Equally comfortable writing headlines, building stories, working independently, briefing talent, analysing data, or coordinating across disciplines.
An advocate for inclusive storytelling, diverse voices, and building fan-first content ecosystems.

Experience & Qualifications
5+ years’ experience in digital publishing, sports journalism or editorial leadership roles.
Demonstrated experience managing editorial teams or networks of contributors.
Track record in growing audience traffic through editorial strategy.
Proven understanding of digital publishing, SEO, content management systems and social media platforms as well as best practice requirements across all disciplines, including visual, video, audio and social.
Experience in or passion for Australian football is highly desirable.
Nice To Haves
Experience in start-up or high-growth content environments.
Ability to appear on or contribute to audio/video platforms as a knowledgeable football voice.
Experience mentoring or developing emerging writers and creators.
